A new residential apartment building project in Sweden – how modular construction should be done

Modular construction, as with any construction process, is a combination of different operations. It is the manner of getting things done that determines the success of a project from start to finish. But when we use the unique advantages of modular construction and collaborate closely with the client, we are able to complete large scale modular buildings more quickly than anyone could have ever imagined.

We often say that our modular construction process helps you to complete your next project 30 – 50 % faster compared to regular on-site construction. How do we achieve this massive advantage in terms of saved time and reduced costs with large scale modular buildings for business clients? Here is a step by step explanation of the most obvious advantages of modular construction.

Astel Modular is entering the Norwegian market with three new projects this year

Having gathered extensive experience on the Swedish and Finnish modular building market, Astel is now entering the Norwegian market. We will start with three projects in 2019 - one in the spring, one in the summer, and one at the end of the year. The first project is an apartment building with a total of 52 apartments in a ski resort in central Norway. The apartment building is constructed with the purpose to provide long term accommodation for the resort employees.

Astel Modular will start manufacturing one of the largest modular apartment building projects in Finland

Astel Modular will start working on a new commercial real estate project in Riihimäki, Finland. The new modular apartment project consists of 300 apartments in 9 apartment buildings with a total living area of 13,500 m2 – making it one of the biggest modular building projects in Scandinavia. Astel Modular will be the main contractor for the project, starting in 2019 and carrying on to 2020. This is the first time a Baltic modular house factory is leading a project of this scale in Scandinavia.

In 2018, Astel Modular contributed to the goals of integrated Stockholm by manufacturing and installing a new modular apartment building in the Vällingby area. The building was ordered to take a step closer to meeting the city’s housing goals and the city made a substantial investment to complete the project in the set timeframe.

New homes are now being built after the fire in Enånger

In 2015, eight apartments in Enånger were destroyed by a fire. It was uncertain for a long time whether the municipally-owned housing company Hudiksvallsbostäder would build new apartments – it seemed to be too expensive from the start, but now construction is underway. At the same time, the housing company is currently constructing 66 apartments outside the city center.

The rooms of the “Welcome-Center” in Kieli Road (German: Kieler Straße) are surrounded by a colonnade. The three residential buildings can house the total of 150 refugees.

The rooms in the two-storey residential buildings of the “Welcome-Centre” opposite the fire house in Kiel Road look practical and modest: three beds and six cabinet modules resembling deposit lockers – this is what a typical room for three looks like.

Welcome Center for refugees in Dormagen

The town of Dormagen in Germany ordered two dormitory type buildings from us, both of them with capacity to house 80 people.

The floors of the dormitories have water heating and the houses have central water heating system. The biggest challenge for us considering this project was to create the necessary documentation which goes according to the byrocacy of the building institutions in Germany.
